Course Description

This course is an examination preparation course that will assist those who are planning on writing the API Above Ground Storage Tank Inspector Certification exam. This course will teach the following:

  • Navigation within the required Code documents (an essential skill for answering questions accurately and in a timely fashion)

  • The required knowledge to pass the examination as listed in the API Body of Knowledge

  • Methods and skills required to perform Code calculations during the examination

  • This course contains pre-class lessons, classroom course work and workshops, and practice exams

Topics Covered

During the course, the instructor will cover the information contained in the API Body of Knowledge. It is important to note that Kinetic Inspection & Testing has no prior knowledge of what questions will be on the examination. Therefore, it is our intent to train exam candidates sufficiently to answer anything that API could ask from the topics listed in the Body of Knowledge.

During the course participants will have the opportunity to be guided through the Codes by an experienced instructor. They will have the chance to answer questions that are similar to the ones that will be asked on the exam, and have concepts and calculation steps demonstrated in a way that is designed to assist each course participant and address each person’s unique skill set.

Course participants will be encouraged to participate in class discussions and workshops that will address the navigation in the Codes, calculations, making the connections between the construction Codes and the repair Codes, review of welding procedure specifications and more. The instructor will be available for one-on-one assistance and discussion following classes.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Registration in this course does not register an individual for the actual API ICP examination. This must be done through API at API expects all examination candidates to have relatively broad experience and knowledge prior to attempting this examination. If you have any questions regarding your suitability and chances of success in writing this challenging examination, please contact Kinetic Inspection & Testing and we will discuss your specific situation and give you recommendations on courses and training that will suit your specific goals and circumstances.

Course Structure

This course consists of three main portions:

  1. Online Pre-class lessons that will help course participants to become familiar with the material prior to coming to the course and will help participants identify areas they may wish to focus on during the course or address with the instructor. These online lessons will be available up to 100 days prior to the classroom start date so you are able to have lots of time to work on them.

  2. 6 days of in-class instruction. This detailed instruction will be led by the instructor and all course participants are encouraged to participate and ask questions. On the 6th day there will be a practice exam and review of the exam to enable course participants to gauge their progress.

  3. Online, practice exams that will enable exam candidates to continue to use the skills they have learned up to the exam day. These exams are online, can be re-set as many times as you wish, and assist candidates to become familiar with the computer based testeing scenario they will face in the actual exam.

Todd, this is the 2nd course I have taken with you as the instructor, the first being 570. Your presentations are always very well executed and communicated and are some of the best I have seen in the many technical seminars, NDE courses and college classes I’ve taken over the years. I always recommend your courses to those looking to take prep courses.
